Take me to Portugal, Take me to Spain is a selection of artists who work with video in Spain and Portugal; two geographically close countries, although historically living quite separately for centuries. Recently that inevitable connection, that undeniable cultural closeness, has been seen in an art world where Portuguese artists work in Spain (as is the case with the artist and curator Catarina Campino) and where Spanish critics and curators look towards Portugal and take great interest in its artistic production (as is the case with David Barro). In this way, the curators of Take me to Portugal, Take me to Spain undertook this collaboration sharing the choice of the artists and defining together the criteria for this selection in which there are no age or thematic restrictions, rather a general contemporary feeling. With regard to the screening format, it is understood by these curators as a format for disclosure and debate and not as an exhibition format, as some of the works require specific spaces when installed. To resolve the problem of this ‘inappropriate format’, between the projection of each one of the works by a certain artist, the curators will provide a general introduction to the concepts behind that artist’s work.
